I received a delivery from Mac Cosmetics this morning which kick-started my day just beautifully. What really perked me up was this:

Their special Marilyn Monroe tribute lipstick. I bought it online without ever having seen the actual shade, let alone tried it on. And, thank the beauty goddesses smiling down on me today, it’s PERFECT. Perfect tone for my skin, perfect texture, and the exact colour I didn’t even know I needed. 

I threw it in my bag along with the gloss and eyebrow pencil that also came, and headed out the door. When I got home, and after tending to the boring chores and putting away groceries, I went to take a closer look at the lippies.

But it was only when I went rummaging deep into the dark murky depths of my bag that I realised, with great shock, that it was swimming in a sea of lipsticks. Here’s what I’m talking about:

Seventeen in total. The really scary part is that I also carry a separate little zip up pouch for lippies, and that stays in the car. I think off the top of my head there are another eight or so lippies in there.

Mystery number 1: why are so many of them red?

Mystery number 2: why are so many of them nude?

Mystery number 3: why are there so MANY of them at all?

Obviously, I love lipstick. And naturally, classic-sexy-racy-instant-pick-me-up-red is a favourite. As is the recent trend toward raspberry shades. Nude is essential. But still…

And here I was thinking I had too many shoes…
