Flashback Friday Book Parade

Being an avid bookworm, I thought for this weeks Flashback Friday link up I would look back at some of the books that I have loved. These are the books that have moved me, stayed with me, engrossed me, and some have even changed my way of thinking. They are the books that MUST be on my bookshelf at all times, and are so well thumbed they look about a hundred years old. Don’t forget that I’m linking up with Cathy at The Camera Chronicles, so if you fancy a further trip down memory lane check out some of the other links.

“Postmortem”, Patricia Cornwell.

I love most of the Kay Scarpetta novels, but this is by far my favourite.

The Harry Potter novels, J. K. Rowling.

I originally bought these for the kids when there were only four books.

“Pride and Prejudice”, Jane Austen.

One from my high school reading list. Still love it.

“Midwives”, Chris Bohjalian.

A great novel, touching on the home birth debate.

“Pushed”, Jennifer Block.

A total game changer. One I have wanted to recommend to every pregnant woman I have known, but never have. Not for the faint hearted. Or for believers of modern obstetric care.

“Goddess, The Secret Lives Of Marilyn Monroe”, Anthony Summers.

I fluked upon a copy of this soon after it was published, and it is the most fascinating biography I have ever read. This is how my copy actually looks.

“The Bell Jar”, Sylvia Plath.

Brilliant. So sad to think she took her own life so soon after it's publication.

“Sins Of The Brother”, Mark Whittaker and Les Kennedy.

After sitting with Ivan Milat's sister at a wedding I found myself wanting to know more about the Backpacker Killer, and what kind of life he had had. A brilliantly in-depth book.

“The Feminine Mystique”, Betty Friedan.

A classic, and for good reason. I don't agree with absolutely everything, but it's very thought provoking.

And I might leave it there, as more and more books come to mind I could easily be here all week ;-)

I would love to hear which were the books that meant the most to you.

Til next time,
Ana.

  1. Great collection Ana. I’ve only read The Bronze Horseman from the Paullina Simons trilogy and it was brilliant – I didn’t know if reading the other two would wreck the first. In some ways I thought The Bronze Horseman could stand alone as a tragic love story in the classic sense. You know, that book makes me think twice before I utter the words, “I’m starving” – Simons did a brilliant job of describing that period in history.

My copy of Goddess has the same cover as yours and looks in about the same condition. I think some of the photo pages have actually come apart from the spine. Obviously influenced by my love and fascination of all things Marilyn Monroe, and particularly her death, I always name this as my all-time favourite book!

Thanks for linking up again with Flashback Friday xx

    • I fell head over heels in love with The Bronze Horseman, couldn’t wait to read more. My copy of Goddess is also falling apart. I read it in about year seven or eight, can’t for the life of me think where I got it from. But I couldn’t believe how, above anything else, her story seemed so sad. At that age I expected it to be all glamorous, and couldn’t understand how it all ended so badly for such a big star. I think I might go and re-read it again, it’s actually been a while. Loving the link-up btw ;-)

  2. I am a real book worm, I always have at least 2 books on my nightstand. I never go to bed without a book. Thank you for sharing some of your favorites, I will be sure to check out some of the titles you have mentioned that I have not yet read x
